How I Showed Up Toothless at a Photoshoot

I did a maternity photoshoot recently for my niece. We did it at my favorite local spot, the Hayward Japanese Gardens. Per usual, I did a mental note the night before of everything I needed to bring - camera, phone, wallet, etc.

The following morning, I packed everything on my list and drove off. I arrived a few minutes early, walked around as I usually do and a few moments later received a message from my niece that they've arrived.

I met them out front and as soon as I smiled and approached them for hugs, I realized I forgot something, feeling something missing in my mouth. I forgot to wear my damn partial. It was for the tooth right beside my front.

I wasn't sure if they noticed but I found myself just blurting out what I forgot. They genuinely seemed not to care and just said, "Oh, you're fine!"

Mortified for about 5 seconds, I managed to shake it off and proceed with what I came there for. We walked around and realized we almost had the entire garden to ourselves, aside from a couple of seniors enjoying a quiet morning walk.

The weather was perfect.

The sunlight just right.

The pictorial fun and smooth.

I didn't think much of my missing tooth nor let it bother me for the rest of the next hour.

Moral of the story?

We can prepare as best we can, but sometimes, things will still come up. Hiccups. Unexpected obstacles. Simple human oversight.

Roll with them.

No matter what, the show goes on.

Do what you need to do.

Be who you need to be.

Don't pause or extend the drama longer than necessary to complete the job.

Stick with your goal in mind.

Even if you missed something in your planning, overlooked a possible hurdle, or show up toothless.
