What does your environment say about you?

We recently vacationed in the islands where the vibe was very much relaxed. We would start our day walking along the beach just as the sun would rise and catch fellow early birds slowly trickle out of their beachfront hotels to either say a quick hello to another beautiful morning, do some yoga or sit quietly by the shore to meditate with the waves providing the perfect background music.

We'd walk about a mile out and on our way back see local workers beginning to set up beach umbrellas, loungers, and surfboards to rent. They look happy, chitchatting and joking around as they unfolded one chair after another. There is a lightness in their demeanor, not a care in the world. Just another day in paradise.

Many of them are also surf instructors. You can tell by their beautiful dark skin and how fit their bodies are. Around noon, you would see some of them take their breaks, enjoying local fruits, a bowl of acai or a salad.

They eat the natural produce of their environment, their work revolves around what their surroundings demand, and they appear happy and in tip top shape as a result.

In a lot of ways, their environment has shaped who they are.

How has your environment shaped who you are?

It should be no surprise that, to some degree, we are molded by what surrounds us - things, people, landscape, energy. The good news is, we can always choose where to plant ourselves. It is us who decides where to live, who to be with, what to pursue and acquire.

The way we choose to design our environment is a direct reflection of the kind of life we're creating.

Look around you.

Does what you see produce the kind of person you want to be?

If not, maybe it's time to do some redecorating.
